Phish Alert - SMS Phishing Scam Impersonating York President

We have received reports from users about a new SMS phishing (smishing) scam that is impersonating York President Rhonda Lenton. The scammers are using different phone numbers to contact potential victims, including numbers from area codes 484 and 438. An example of the smishing text described is shown below for reference:

This message was NOT sent by York President Rhonda Lenton and is PHISHING. Please do not respond to the scam message if you receive it. If you have already responded, we ask that you cease all correspondences with the scammer.

You can also report the message to your cell phone provider by forwarding the text message to 7726.

The scammer will attempt to obtain additional information, such as bank account details, account names, and passwords, ultimately leading to fraudulent financial transfers. Their end goal is to defraud you.
